Merry Christmas

We seem to have just about got over the Flu. in time for Christmas. I have hardly stepped ashore for the week, however the Captain did come back from the marina book swop the other day with a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. Not something we generally do but they can become compulsive. This one features a canal boat, a post van, two cyclists and a steam train. Talk about casting the net wide! Now, I favour getting the edge completed first, however the Captain, always one to be different, works on recognisable blocks like the post van or the boat. All I know is we are now eating off our laps as the puzzle has taken over the table.
I did just about manage to get out long enough to take this picture of a festive Robin in the hedgerow nearby. You might spot the pics. looking a bit different. I am still getting used to my new phone.
On Monday we drove south ready for the family thing over the holliday. As our grandaughter has now moved in it is strange to be a guest in our own house. I'm sure we'll get used to it and enjoy our Cristmas dinner at our daughters house.
That just leaves me to wish our readers and fellow bloggers a very merry Xmas and good cruising for  2015

Poor Cindrella, Missed the Ball!

On Wednesday we drove back north to Stone, where the Captain had an appointment with the dentist. (Rather him than me)
Xmas shopping day on Friday. We caught the bus into Stoke, wizzed round the shops and got back just in time to be invited to the 'Royal Exchange' for a pint or two with Andy &Sue and Dot & Gordon, who are also wintering in Aston.
This is when things started to go horribly wrong. I could not understand why I was cold in the pub when everyone else was warm. By Saturday I had a severe dose of the flu but managed to help get Oakapple onto the diesel point as we needed filling up for the winter. (200ltrs)
Sunday was the event I had been looking forward to, the boaters Xmas dinner at Spoons in Stone. There was no way I could have gone. I had to insist the Captain went on his own (it was character building for him) but he had a great time while Cinderella stayed home. (Ahhh!) if you look at Festina Lente's blog you can see more pics of the gathering.
We managed to fish out the Xmas Decs. today so things can only get better.

Can anyone play the Piano?

It's been a busy week. We have had time at home sorting out the house and catching up with friends and family. We have been working towards the idea of living on board full time for a while now and the opportunity presented itself in the shape of our grandaughter who is moving into our house.
This allows us to keep our address and also be independent.
The last few days have been taken up with clearing bedrooms and rearranging furniture. The biggest item was moving the piano into the dining room where it belongs. It reminded me of the old story about army recruits. The Sergeant says  "can anyone play  the piano?" Two muppets step forward. TheSergeant  says " good: get over to the mess. the piano needs shifting to the drill hall".
Why are they so heavy? I'd rather be doing a flight of locks.
We arrived back at Aston  this afternoon after a relatively easy drive. (I just sat there whilst the captain drove)
We have some Xmas shopping to finish fefore, hopefully, some festivities.

New Friends

We have settled onto our pier in Aston Marina and are making ourselves comfortable. The other winter moorers are gradually arriving and we are hoping for some good times before spring sends us on our separate ways.
The first people we met were Andy and Sue from 'Festina Lente' and we all had a great afternoon on Sunday at 'The Holly Bush'. The expected maintenance work has now started on the locks in Stone so the canal is now closed in that direction, however we have strolled into town a couple of times along the towpath. Yesterday was a bright, but cold, afternoon but it was a good walk and we were treated to a roaring log fire in 'Spoons'. It was difficult to drag ourselves away for the walk back to the marina where we had cups of tea on board 'Festina Lente'. Andy has generously offered us a lift to Stafford this morning where we are catching the train south to catch up with the family and friends before Xmas. Thanks guys.
